Clash Music premieres “LA in 83” by DONCAT

Doncat

Clash Music Premiere

Duncan Nielsen picked the name Doncat a few years back, round about the time he moved to his current location in San Francisco.

Blessed with stunning vistas, the songwriter is able to pick at his guitar while peering over the city, exploring the outer limits of California without even leaving his front porch.

It’s this location that perhaps makes his music so damn relaxed, while also having a gentle, exploratory feel.

New album ‘Easy Cowboy’ is out now, a collection of psych-folk cuts with a plangent Laurel Canyon atmosphere. READ MORE…

Antiquiet premieres “Truth About You” by Injected

Antiquiet Premiere

Atlanta punk crushers Injected return today after 15 years without a release, tearing open the gates of hell on Truth About You the lead single and title track to their upcoming record of the same name – exclusively premiered today on Antiquiet.

Arriving June 2nd on Slush Fund, The Truth About You was produced by Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk, Kurt Vile, J. Mascis), who also played drums on album. Injected band member Jade Lemons, who passed away last year, also contributes guitar.

The track is a galloping rocker with grit, strut and a squealing solo that flexes just the kind of attitude and fire we need to begin filling the freshly-blasted void of Cornell’s absence. He can never be replaced, replicated or diminished. But we can rock our screaming fucking asses off in the name of survival, perseverance and pure rock fury – and that’s exactly what you’ll find from Injected’s long-awaited return. READ MORE…

Glide Magazine premieres “Hard Weather” by Nathan Bell

Glide Magazine Premiere

Nathan Bell is a songwriter’s songwriter—at 57, the troubadour’s weary voice bleeds experience. He made his bones sharing bills with legends like Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal and Norman Blake. The son of a poet and professor, the Iowa-born/Chattanooga-based Bell has a keen eye for detail and an unapologetic penchant for the political, populist humanism of his literary heroes John Steinbeck, Jack London and Studs Terkel. So it’s no surprise that the 2016 presidential race—culminating the election of Donald J. Trump—was a powerful catalyst for Bell’s affecting new album Love>Fear (48 Hours in Traitorland). READ MORE…

Noisey debuts “Santa Monica” video from Honus Honus

honus honus

What is it about nighttime drives through the city that makes for such cinematically eerie shots? Something about the flickering headlights and blurred passing cars that creates an unsettling sense of paranoia. Ryan Gosling used it to his advantage in Drive, as did Tom Hardy in Locke and DeNiro in Taxi Driver. Now, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who you may know from from 10 Cloverfied Lane and as Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, employs it in Honus Honus’ new video for “Santa Monica,” which sees her cruising around one ominous evening.

Honus Honus, a.k.a Ryan Kattner of Man Man, injects his trademark weirdness into “Santa Monica,” his 80s-tinged dark pop jam from his latest solo effort, 2016’s Use Your Delusion. It’s his favorite song on the album, he says, and is “a composite about a couple friends of mine who were letting bad habits take over. It was happening in such small increments to them that they didn’t realize it until a year or two later. By that time, they were almost an entirely different person that I didn’t recognize anymore even though I was around them all the time. They’re good now. Happy ending. You can always pull out of a nose dive. Just don’t go back 15 minutes later for another. Or do.”

So pop this in your 8-track or whatever you’ve got in your Firebird and let it soundtrack your creepy late night drives through streets littered with creepers and your own personal demons. Just make sure you check over your shoulder in the rear-view mirror once in a while. READ MORE

PopMatters premieres new track from Bret Busch

bret busch

Bret Busch has been a vital part of the Atlanta music scene for more than 25 years as a member of various local bands, including Parlour, Pardner, and Ramada and the Hollidays. On his upcoming Pills Lace & Confetti LP releasing July 14th, Busch goes solo blending pop and a bit of soul while working with musicians from Merge Records as well as Janelle Monae’s backing band. Oh, and when this prolific fellow isn’t working on his music, Busch is the lead singer of beloved Smiths tribute band Smithsonian.

“Since I love and have played so many styles over the years, I wasn’t trying to do just one thing with this record,” Busch says. “I didn’t want it to be too crazy, and I wasn’t trying to be too avant-garde. Really, I’m a singer first, and that’s what I wanted to present by doing this project under my name. I wanted to have at least one country-ish song on there (“Where I’m Going”) because I’d done a lot of that with my band Pardner. But, other than that, I really just let my collaborators guide the sound.”

“Ink Black Sea” is the new album’s first single and it’s a catchy toe-tapping pop tune with a killer chorus, punctuated by a bright and energetic horn section. The summery vibe is contagious in this earworm of a tune and it has us looking forward to hearing what other pop tricks Busch may have up his sleeve for the rest of Pills Lace & Confetti.  READ MORE
