Glide Magazine announces the release of Stuffy Shmitt’s new album, Stuff Happens, offers exclusive preview of lead single “It’s OK”

stuffy shmitt stacie huckeba glide magazine stuff happens it's ok rock roll americana singer songwriter music publicity baby robot

It’s only right that the new Stuffy Shmitt album comes out in the “WTF” months that we now perilously call 2020.

Stuff Happens is Shmitt’s first record in eight years because, well, he went crazy. “I was living in New York and my brain was on fire. I got that bipolar thing. I was bouncing between full-blown depression and a jailbreak manic buzz rush. After nearly a decade of getting 86’d from bars in the West Village, I made it to Nashville six years ago and finally got my head screwed on tight enough to make a new record.”

This album finds Shmitt not quite exorcising his demons, but exercising them—wrestling with them until they’ve been knocked around enough to be manageable. “I didn’t realize until the record was finished and my wife, Donna, pointed it out,” Stuffy says, “but this album is all about trauma.Disasters big and small. It was an accident, though. It was all subconscious. I guess, eventually, that shit’s gotta come out.”

Indie Obsessive deconstructs new Radiator King single “Haunts Me Now”

radiator king reignland magazine folk punk americana roots rock haunts me now

“Haunts Me Now” invites dissection. Certainly, the single from Radiator King separates itself from the pack because of the candidness carried in the intelligently written lyrics, as well as the vocal commitment to the sentiment of those lyrics. Still, only by examining some of the individual elements of “Haunts Me Now” can the song be fully appreciated. It isn’t a true dissection, because it is an examination of individual “limbs” and how they cooperate with the rest of the body.

The first example is the 12-second intro and its gentle attractiveness. The guitar tugs at the listener’s attention and sets expectations for the body of “Haunts Me Now.” Then, the vocals enter, and the expectations require a reboot. The voice is not melodically smooth in a manner consistent with the intro. Instead, memories are presented by a gruff voice. The reminiscing explains that while he once was “left black and blue for days,” he can now take on any man here. But for the most part, a memory of the past still “haunts me now.”

Greesha Music adds Laura Rabell’s new single “The Mirror” to its 75,000+ follower Greesha Love playlist

greesha love music laura rabell americana singer songwriter alt country nashville baby robot pr publicity
Americana / alt-country singer-songwriter and recent breast-cancer survivor Laura Rabell’s new debut, Immortal (named literally two weeks before she was diagnosed with cancer), sounds something like Kelsey Waldon fronting the Old 97’s circa Drag It Up—soulful and downhome vocals sitting atop a dark, yet pleasingly surfy spaghetti-western vibe.

Rabell has shared bills with artists such as The Black Lillies and Anne Mccue, and harmonica legend Charlie McCoy (Johnny Cash, George Jones, Bob Dylan) appears on Rabell‘s new record, as do Jeff Thorneycroft & Pete Pulkrabek, rhythm section for ’90s pop-rock sensations The Rembrandts.

Lead single / album opener “The Mirror” really sets the tone for the record and is representative of Laura’s writing—smoky, twisty, self-deprecating and almost always in a minor key. The song is about being empowered by rather than ashamed of stereotypical singer/songwriter self-loathing. Really, it’s a journey to self-acceptance through self-loathing, wrapped in some fantastic guitar playing from producer Dave Coleman and driven home with Laura’s always soulful vocals.

The song was just added to tastemaker Greesha Music’s 75,000+ follower Greesha Love Spotify playlist. LISTEN HERE

Glide Magazine debuts NEW single from E.Z. Shakes, calling it “a guitar driven wake-up call.”

Years before forming E.Z. Shakes, Zach Seibert grew up in small-town Illinois, raised on the sounds of heartland rock & roll, hard-hitting punk, and old-school country/gospel music. His parents were hippie Christians who bounced from church to church, searching for a congregation that suited their family’s countercultural ideals. The experience left a mark on Seibert, who developed an appetite for diversity — in art, life, faith, and beyond — that he’d later put to use as E.Z. Shakes’ raspy-voiced, genre-defying, storytelling frontman.
