Billboard Shares King Corduroy’s Brand New Music Video

King Corduroy by Rob Williamson

King Corduroy wasn’t about to let the chance to record at FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Ala., go undocumented. The experience is showcased in the video for “Shamrock Inn,” premiering on Billboard exclusively below, from the Nashville musician’s just-released EP, Avalon Ave.

“I wanted to convey that the record was recorded live, and that’s the most iconic place I’ve ever recorded,” Corduroy, whose real name is Kurt McMahan, tells Billboard. “It was a special moment, and I just wanted it documented and I thought it would be a good way to do both things and have it serve as a music video.”

No Depression Features Quiet Hounds in Crowdfunding Radar

Quiet Hounds

Atlanta’s Quiet Hounds have been around since 2011, but have somehow evaded my notice until I saw the dog-masked photo that adorns the Kickstarter campaign for their sixth album Everything Else Is Noise and clicked through out of curiosity. I’m glad I did. A quick YouTube dive into their catalog revealed a band that is hard to classify, but a lot of fun to listen to. From one song to the next, you might get harmonica-driven folk rock, spacey dream pop, or a fuzzed-out indie blaster. The band is selling Everything Else Is Noise as a more kinetic counterpoint to their melancholy 2017 release Characteristics of Living Things…

PAPER Magazine Premieres Emergency Tiara’s “Do Not Disturb”

New York-based experimental pop artist Emergency Tiara has a sound that can only be described as a masterful mix of Japanese pop-rock, uptempo 60’s tunes, fast and fine rhythms that seem to be inspired by Tokyo, and straightforward lyrics. ET, who was born in Tokyo with the name Juri Jinnai, isn’t afraid of leaning into the strange and unique with her bubbly escapism. But make no mistake: she doesn’t hide behind all the color and theatrics. At the core of her music is authenticity, and the celebration of different people’s authentic selves.

AllMusic interviews Norwegian artist, Hanne Hukkelberg, discussing her brand new album, 𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌, celebrating 15 years as an artist!

It’s impossible to limit Norwegian musician Hanne Hukkelberg to any particular musical world; as a teenager she sang for the metal band Funeral, before graduating from a music academy in Oslo and embarking on a career that has touched on jazz, electronic, and pop music. Along the way she has picked up a Norwegian Grammy and plenty of acclaim for her sophisticated, savvy approach that often includes found sounds alongside more traditional elements.

Birthmark finds Hukkelberg in her experimental pop mode, writing songs that touch on the impersonality of modern interactions (on the song “Don’t Dream” she plans to “fiddle while Twitter burns”), the lessons she would impart on her younger self, and a bleak, imagined future for her relationship, which sadly proved true.

On their recently released debut LP Sterling, New York City-based Americana duo Joanie & Matt (Joanie Leeds and Matthew Check) adapt ancient texts from the Hebrew Bible for a powerful collection of songs.
