Dark times call for dark songs. At least that’s how East Nashville based singer/songwriter Derek Hoke sees it. On his new album, the portentously titled Bring the Flood (10/13 via Little Hollywood), Hoke dives into a sound far more ominous, threatening, and anxiously introspective than the music on his previous three full-length releases would suggest.

Popdose Interview with Family Pet
Los Angeles punk band Family Pet have officially released their debut single, also called “Family Pet.” Described as delivering “garage-punk riffs with flippant aggression, their snotty, subversive lyrics smoothed like strawberry icing over the beating heart of rock & roll,” the band’s upcoming album due in October, Petty, is produced by Colleen Green.

Glide Magazine premieres “Reaction Time” by Jason Wilber
Jason Wilber’s new record, Reaction Time, plays like a solitary tour bus rolling steadfastly through the countryside under mysterious skies. It’s the sound of long, hushed hours spent scribbling in notebooks, dreaming up gorgeously mournful melodies and cascading harmonies set against jangling guitars, the searching songs underpinned by a persistent longing. Which all makes perfect sense. Jason Wilber has spent the better part of the last 20 years gazing out at the world through the windows of planes, busses, cars and trains while on tour with country/folk icon John Prine.

American Songwriter premieres “Alright” by Fairbanks and the Lonesome Light
American Songwriter Premiere
Becoming a parent is one of life’s scariest undertakings, though it’s often one of the most rewarding, too. In a new track from their forthcoming album Nothing to Escape, Austin folk-rock quintet Fairbanks and the Lonesome Light explore the complicated rush of emotions that comes with impending parenthood.
“‘Alright’ is about becoming a parent when you’ve spent all of your adult life in a world where becoming a parent seemed, at the very least, out of place,” Erik Flores says. “From the swift, confusing, and emotionally stunning moment of finding out I was going to be parent, to the point of looking in the eyes of our inextricably and impossibly beautiful little future. A little cautious, a little dark, a little uncertain at times… still wrestling with the existential dilemmas that come with the creative’s territory, trying to reconcile the truth of two worlds, losing your taste for bullshit and suddenly watching the superfluous aspects of life fall away. All pretty scary stuff, but in the end, feeling grateful… and very alright.” READ MORE…
