Last year, Los Angeles’ Goliathan—the enduring collaboration between guitarists and lifelong friends Shawn Doster & Kevin Cogill—released their two EPs, Albion and Awakens, on vinyl for the first time, as well as a set of raw, primal early recordings, Artifact, that was remixed by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Red Sparowes, Helmet) and mastered by Gene Grimaldi (Failure, Fantômas).
Through their alternately punishing and ethereal instrumentals, which seamlessly toggle between doom metal and blackened post rock, Goliathan tells stories as vast as geologic time itself. Tales of epic beginnings and inevitable ends, of the epochal crawl of continents, apocalyptic future landscapes and, perhaps most impactfully, of nature finally—and violently—reclaiming its rightful dominion over humanity.

Hayley Johnson, the mastermind behind The Little Miss, is followed around by angels reminding her to declutter while her punchy melodic tune keeps things upbeat. She tries her best to ignore these angels, but they’re everywhere—in her shower, sitting next to her on the couch, or following her down some steps. Johnson says it’s about her fraught relationship with capitalism. It seems like a losing game, but the epic choreographed dance at the end really leaves you on a squeaky clean and optimistic note.
