New Noise Magazine premieres Fort Gorgeous’ new video for “Round and Round”

We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Fort Gorgeous’ music video for their song “Round and Round (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s debut EP The Bottom of the Sea, which is available now through iTunes, Spotify and all other major digital distributors.

This video was a collaboration with Matt Troy (directory and Cinematographer) and Allison Rodgers.

Fort Gorgeous commented:

With the shots we wanted it to just give a sense of being in my head while going through routine things. We combined that with close up shots of instruments and elements of the daily routine sort of like they were ingredients to both make the song and the day work.

Allison Rodgers says, ‘Really wanted to capture in editing the way we get caught in our own heads and our own routines, while still making it fun and interesting to watch.’

So even though the song is about repetition in a bigger existential sense we wanted to sort of portray that in a more day to day sense. READ MORE…

New Noise premieres People’s Blues of Richmond’s “Cocaine Powder”

We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of People’s Blues of Richmond’s re-recording of their song “Cocaine Powder” (listen below). The original version was an acoustic track off their album Good Time Suicide.

Bassist Matthew Volkes commented on re-recording the song:

“We had flown out to California for a West Coast tour and had a day off in San Francisco, and our friend Pamela Parker, an engineer at Hyde Street Studio, invited us to come do a session . Hyde Street Studio has a lot of history there a ton of amazing artists have recorded there including Dead Kennedys, Grateful Dead, Santana, CSNY, Cake, Green Day, Tupac… the list goes on forever so we immediately said ‘yes.’ When we play ‘Cocaine Powder’ live it’s always super manic, loud, and has a lot of dramatic changes. We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Radiator King’s new music video for their song “Ghost Dance” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s latest album A Hollow Triumph After All, which is available for purchase through Bandcamp.

The video for “Ghost Dance” displays the proclaimed “Madness that shook the earth,” through black and white, found footage of “us vs. them” brutality on the Western frontier. Radiator King’s deep, raspy breaths light a fire under the lyrics (“We are dancing on the rim of the world”) that run across the screen, frantically scrawled in a manner befitting the tracks dissonant, uneasy tone. New Noise Magazine talks to Count Vaseline about depression & more

The experimental psychedelic pop project, Count Vaseline—helmed by Irish vocalist and instrumentalist Stefan “The Count” Murphy and Judas von Basf, his trusty tape machine—first manifested in May of 2016 in Berlin, Germany. Several months later, in September, the project birthed its debut full-length album, Yo No Soy Marinero. Now located in Atlanta, Georgia, The Count released his sophomore follow-up, Cascade, on March 31—an album Murphy refers to as a “micro-universe of record.”

Are there any personal experiences with mental health issues you’d like to share?

I’ve battled with depression most of my life. Not for as long as I can remember, but certainly since my early teens. It has made my life a hellish nightmare at times. Right now, I’m on top of it, but it’s stifled my work, my relationship with bandmates, and my relationship with those closest to me.

How does your mental health status interact with or inform the way you make music?

The wild fluctuation of my mood and the emotional Ferris wheel that it takes me on can render me incapable of making music sometimes, and then at other times, it can shift me into top gear. I have never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder [or] manic depression, but I do experience pretty violent fluctuations in my mood. When I’m down, I can get nothing done, so I use the periods when I’m “up” to my advantage. Though I know the feeling is not healthy and not really to be trusted, when I’m experiencing mania, I’m really dialed in to what I need to be doing. My songwriting flourishes, my organizational skills are on point, and my general work rate exceeds expectations… READ MORE

“I picked up the guitar at 10, and really took it seriously at 12. I would practice three hours a day every day after school. I wasn’t really into sports and things like that—the guitar was definitely my outlet and something I picked up fairly quickly. I had strong aspirations to be like the guys that I was listening to. I think that was what kept me focused. At age 12, I had it all planned out, and I was convinced I was going to make music for a living one day.
