Immersive Atlanta reviews SEX BBQ’s debut LP “Sex Noir City”

It’s been three years since SEX BBQ showed their penchant for boisterous rock and roll with their debut single “Locus of Control.” Now they are back with their first album, Sex Noir City, and are picking up right where they left off.

Although singer/guitarist Kate Jan and guitarist Steve LaBate initially wanted to form a surf punk band in the vein of former Atlanta stalwarts Ghost Bikini, their talents soon pushed them beyond such a limiting genre. While the surf punk elements are still audible on the album, they are covered with layer after layer of bold instrumental choices. In the world of SEX BBQ, creepy psychedelia meets galloping spaghetti western beats, pulling the listener into a world where the sun set long ago. READ MORE…

Under the Gun Review premieres “The Dangerous Kind” off Aaron Lee Tasjan’s forthcoming debut LP, In the Blazes

ALT

Aaron Lee Tasjan’s newest single, “The Dangerous Kind,” is a fine piece of blues rock ‘n’ roll music. The track—which comes off of Tasjan’s new record, In The Blazes—mixes everything from poignant storytelling to sleek and saucy guitar playing. “This love is the dangerous kind,” Tasjan sings. This song is the dangerous kind…dangerously good.

In The Blazes, due out Oct. 6, was tracked in one week at New Monkey Studio in Los Angeles. That’s the same studio where Elliott Smith’s posthumously released record From a Basement on a Hill was tracked. READ MORE…

Highlander’s new video for “Safe/Save” premieres at Surviving the Golden Age.

Highlander Press Photo

Atlanta’s Highlander recently released their second EP, Weird Future Deer Bear Wolf Records. Surviving the Golden Age is pleased to premiere the video for the single “Safe/Save.” The video is set up as the band is at an AA meeting. There are some laughs. There is some tension. One member loses his shirt. Unfortunately, the meeting does not do its job because by the end, the band is back to their old habits: drinking, smoking, and playing music. WATCH HERE…

Immersive Atlanta debuts acoustic live session of Sara Rachele performing her song “Never Come Around” from her 2014 debut LP Diamond Street

If I had to name singer-songwriter Sara Rachele’s greatest gift, it would be her ability to wring big emotions from the simplest of songs. Much of the credit can go to her honey-coated voice, although her knack for finding points of depth and complexity in her mostly spare arrangements shouldn’t be overlooked.

On “Never Come Around,” the full range of her gifts are on display, her heartrending vocals accompanied only by the gentle strum of her acoustic guitar. It’s a haunting, gorgeous song, and the video, shot live last year by Atlanta Entourage, only serves to highlight the intense beauty of her singing, which bristles with a kind of wounded vulnerability. We’re not sure why a performance so striking has been shelved for so long, but we’re very excited to be able to premiere it for you today. WATCH HERE
