BuzzBands.La Showcase New Music Videos from Tom Freund

Life can be a winding road yet sometimes one has to get through those twists and turns before arriving where one needs to be. Singer-songwriter Tom Freund considers this in his latest single, “Runaround,” off his latest album, “East of Lincoln,” self-released last year via his Surf Road Records imprint.

Freund cut his musical teeth in his teen and early adult years on jazz bass, guitar and vocals on New York City’s theater and club circuit while attending Columbia University and doing TV music work on the side. The wunderkind then followed the winds to fairer weather and soon after arriving at Pitzer College on the very east end of Los Angeles County, met his first songwriting soulmate Ben Harper and adjusted his meter to alt folk Americana, later joining up with roots rockers the Silos, then picking up a few side gigs (with Brit pub rocker Graham Parker and soul artist Bret Dennen), collaborations (with Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Victoria Williams, KT Tunstall, Diana Krall, Dave Matthews, Mandy Moore and Rachael Yamagata, among others) and more TV and film work.

Atwood Magazine Gives Exclusive Premiere of Michael McArthur’s “Ever Green, Ever Rain”

It’s understood that the grass is always greener on the other side, but this tough-love cliché fails to acknowledge what makes the grass so vibrant in the first place. Singer-songwriter Michael McArthur delves into the not-so-sunny reality of metaphorical flora with “Ever Green, Ever Rain,” his latest single premiering exclusively via Atwood Magazine.

Backed by no-frills acoustic orchestration, the melancholy cut from McArthur serves as a poetic lecture on the grappling aspects of love that go so often unsung. While many romantic tunes fit into two ends of the spectrum — either blind infatuation or heartbreak — “Ever Green, Ever Rain” visits the grey area, acknowledging the impossibility of a lush forest without the downpour that makes it flourish.

Charles Welsey Godwin Interviews with For Folk’s Sake

West Virginia is far more than meets the eye. A native of Morgantown, singer-songwriter Charles Wesley Godwin paints a rich and honest portrayal of his homeland and its people with his debut album. Seneca is a moving snapshot of his 26 years of life and well-soiled roots in the Appalachian hills, a backdrop that has given birth to some of the most intelligent and hard-working people in the country.

When you partake in his gripping storytelling, it comes as no surprise that Godwin’s shared bills with the likes of Shooter Jennings, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Luke Combs, Aaron Watson, David Allan Coe, Sundy Best, Waymore’s Outlaws and Nicholas Jamerson. Godwin is truly at home on stage and alongside like-minded musicians who go against the grain and shake up the status quo.

New Slang praises Charles Wesley Godwin in “10 Things I Liked This Week”

I’m buying all of the Charles Wesley Godwin stock available. Ever since I first heard Seneca, Godwin’s upcoming album, in the last weeks of 2018, I knew it was special. Godwin just seems primed to break out like Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, or Jason Isbell before him. So far, he’s shared a handful of songs off Seneca with the roaring ramble of “Hardwood Floors” being the latest. Godwin’s embrace of West Virginia (and Appalachia at large) sets the table. Right from the get-go, you’re given the setting for all these songs to live in. Go forth and explore. Godwin’s storytelling is rich and weighted with details of struggle, strife, and the fog of depression.

Grand Canyon’s “Kansas City” Lands Lighting 100’s DJ Pick of the Week

Lani here with my DJ pick of the week from LA rockers Grand Canyon. In an era of computer-made, beat-driven music, Grand Canyon considers themselves the antithesis of modern pop music, creating rock music inspired by the greats of the ‘70s.
