What Youth premieres Beechwood’s “03 CF”

NYC-based glam punk trio Beechwood are no strangers to the dirty side of the law. Earlier this year, drummer and vocalist Isa Tineo and bassist Sydney Simons were arrested during an outdoor show for “reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct.” The whole thing was caught on social media and made its way to headlines in NY Daily News. Welcome to rock ‘n’ roll, boys. Considering Beechwood remind me most prominently of notorious rebels Brian Jonestown and My Bloody Valentine, I wouldn’t expect anything less from these punks. Check out their new single for “C/F,” off forthcoming LP Songs From the Land of Nod, dropping January 26th via Alive Naturalsound. “Cheap Tissue brings brash and fun energy,” says The Deli Magazine

Cheap Tissue don’t go out of their way to make nice. The skate punk foursome plays lean, short songs with fast tempos and pulverizing guitar parts that ring true to their defiant credo of pure, unadulterated rock n’ roll. Jamie McLean Band – “Sing It” (audio) (premiere)

You may not know Jamie McLean by name, but there’s a good chance you’ve heard one of his songs. The New York roots rocker has penned hundreds of original tunes spanning a slew of Americana’s myriad of influences. Beyond that, he’s offered his scorching guitar to the likes of Aaron Neville and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and has even seen the world as a result of it. So, he’s sure gotten around, and he has the warm, developed sound to back it up.

His bandmates, Brian Griffin (drums) and Ben Mars (bass), have too. It’s a good reason why the work that they, alongside McLean, contribute to the Jamie McLean Band feels so good to listen to. These guys are the real deal, packing soulful, blues-worn influences into the Americana cavalcade that they transcend forward within each performance.

“Sing It” offers McLean a lot of room to navigate its groove, and he does so with fiery soul that showcases his innate capability as a frontman.Produced by Ken Coomer of Wilco fame, its swampy roots rock arrangement offers itself well to this song that’s chockful of hope.Amidst driving guitar, drums, and some rocking piano, McLean confidently croons, “When the blues have got you down, this song will make ’em go.” It’s a positive message in a rocking song that can get anyone up and dancing, and it’s just one of many from off of the Jamie McLean Band’s upcoming LP, One and Only. One and Only will see release on 28 February 2018.

Blurt Magazine gives Thorp Jenson’s Odessa 4/5 stars

Managing to straddle the line between Southern rocker and Americana troubadour, Richmond-based guitarist Thorp Jenson comes off as a Southern states Springsteen on his self-produced record Odessa.

The charm of this album lies in its versatility. The first couple of tracks, like the stellar “Lonely” and “All We Have Is Time” boast echoes of Tom Petty, while elsewhere Jenson pulls off a haunting, stripped down sound that takes more from folk and classic barroom country than rock (think Guy Clark or Townes Van Zandt).
