Bill Filipiak’s new Halloween-ready, Night of the Living Dead-themed video for “When the Blues Come Calling” was featured today in Billboard magazine’s First Country roundup, alongside artists such as George Strait, Cody Weaver and Maddie & Tae.

Billboard writes of the song: “harmonica-laced, country-blues … that addresses the persistent nature of depression. Like the album’s other songs, the track is aimed at acknowledging the ups and downs of humanity, and aiding others in managing life’s rougher moments.”

Takénobu wrote a song depicting everyone’s dream over the past year: quitting the draining and time-consuming traditional job in exchange for something more freeing—the ability to ‘travel light.’

“Traveling Light” is the opening song on Takénobu’s new album, Always Leave a Note. Nick Ogawa, the man behind Takénobu, was inspired to write the song based on his own decision to leave his job in marketing to pursue music full time.

“In 2011, I was really really lucky to have my songs start to take off on Pandora radio and I started to be able to pay my rent from iTunes downloads. When that happened, I was able to quit my job I was unhappy with and pursue music full time. I took a pay cut to do it, but I’ve never looked back or felt regretful about that aspect of things,” Ogawa tells American Songwriter. “I’ve always thought about how liberating it was and with ‘Traveling Light’ I wanted to express both the feeling of being trapped by work and the liberation from feeling exploited by it, even if it means having less or living more simply.”

Just in time for Halloween, Farce the Music debuts Bill Filipiak’s zombie-laden new video for “When the Blues Come Calling”

Just in time for Halloween, Farce the Music has debuted “When the Blues Come Calling, the new zombie-laden video from Nashville Americana artist Bill Filipiak.

From his just-released album, Medicine I Need, the song is a gritty roadhouse-country stomp that finds the singer-songwriter wrestling with the blues. The video follows suit, as Bill shows off his director/producer chops, using public-domain footage from classic horror film Night of the Living Dead to create a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the relentlessness of depression, as it pursues its victims like zombies.

“Filipiak’s warm and worn vocals and the creeping resonator guitar add to the haunting atmosphere,” writes Farce the Music. “Recommended if you like Ray Wylie Hubbard, Tim Easton & Robert Cray.”
