LA Weekly previews Echo Park Rising 2020

While it feels like a blessing that some form of the Echo Park Rising festival is going ahead, it’s very clear that the annual event is going to be very different in 2020. For starters, it’s just the one day — Saturday, September 26. And then of course there’s the fact that the whole thing will be effectively crowd-less, livestreamed to our homes from the various Echo Park venues.  READ MORE…

Country Rebel shares exclusive new acoustic performance from Kentucky country & Americana artist Josh Merritt

josh merritt reynolds station country rebel live with that americana kentucky baby robot music PR publicity

The Country Rebel clothing brand has shared the exclusive new solo acoustic video for “Live With That,” by country / Americana artist Josh Merritt. The clip was filmed onstage at Lamasco Bar in Evansville, Ind.

Merritt has opened shows for everyone from Hank Williams Jr. and Charlie Daniels to Colt Ford, Corey Smith and Sonia Leigh. His new studio debut, Reynolds Station, is a countrified concept record, a set of autobiographical songs based on his tumultuous childhood in rural Kentucky. During this time, Merritt’s young mother & stepfather’s lives were unraveled by meth addiction. After several bleak years, Merritt and his brothers were taken away to be raised by their grandparents on a farm in the unincorporated community of Reynolds Station, a place of refuge in the wake of the storm.

Reynolds Station was produced by hit songwriter and recording artist Shannon Lawson, and engineered & mixed by Zac Kasik (who worked with Jamey Johnson on platinum-selling album That Lonesome Song). The record also features veteran session players such as bassist Robert Kerns (Sheryl Crow), drummer Shakey Fowles (Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker) and keyboard player Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd).

A break from the record’s more somber tunes, “Live With That” is a downhome party track, Merritt inhabiting the mindset of his drug-dealing family members during a hot streak where things are momentarily cool and the money is rolling in. Check it out via Country Rebel.

Beats Per Minute reviews Misty Boyce’s new album, Genesis, out tomorrow

Misty Boyce might be known amongst her peers and the music industry as a reliable and bookable session player, but she has been carving out her own take on the world for more than half a decade now. She’s worked with the likes of Sting, Ingrid Michaelson, and BØRNS, and she knows the value of teamwork when it comes to making the music sound right – an ethos that has followed her solo work from the beginning. Elmore Magazine debuts NEW track from E.Z. Shakes, “The Pretender,” calling it “epic Americana”

South Carolina’s band of amplified roots-rockers E.Z. Shakes play songs grounded in epic Americana, shimmering twang, swooning pedal steel, atmospheric guitars, and rolling reverb. Collectively, they turn frontman Zach Seibert’s autobiographical folk songs into dark, moody anthems honest enough for a bar and dynamic enough for an arena.
