“Musician’s Story”—a standout track from the band’s forthcoming debut album 1969—spins the tale of a vagabond kid raising himself as he travels the country alone searching for his place in the world. Anchored by shimmering Hammond B3 and some achingly beautiful slide-guitar work, it’s a modern roots-rock classic.
It was in Chicago that Michelle Billingsley caught the eye of legendary producer Brian Deck, who recorded and played drums and percussion on her debut album Not the Marrying Kind.
