Casey Shea of Grand Canyon Talks Album Creation With Vents Magazine

“The recording process started as an experiment. We had been rehearsing in the valley a few times a week, and the room was set up to record rehearsals. It’s a small room, but things were sounding decent enough, and we thought maybe we should give it a shot ourselves. We did two songs in there almost fully live, and they came out what one might call – listenable. So we continued on for about a year usually two songs at a time. We ended up giving up on the fully live thing, cause going for bass and drums and overdubbing most everything else gave us a lot more control over things. We started taking sessions home to our various home setups and continued building. Eventually we outsourced the mixing/mastering. It’s definitely a bit of a lo-fi thing, but it’s very unique. You’re not gonna find anyone who can get the sound of Le Cañon.” – Casey Shea

Rolling Stone Magazine Praises Andrew Leahey & the Homestead’s “Airwaves”

Just this week, Andrew Leahey & the Homestead played 10 gigs over five days aboard the annual Rock Boat cruise, including one on the main deck stage in the pounding rain. Such marathon schedules are par for the course for Leahey, a Virginia native, Nashville resident and occasional Rolling Stone contributor who has made it his mission to revive heartland rock & roll. On his new single, “Airwaves,” he celebrates the power of the genre and champions the still-influential medium of radio.

The title track of his upcoming second album, out March 1st, “Airwaves” is a blast of Tom Petty rock and, in the era of streaming, makes a case for logging off and tuning in.

Americana From the Flatlands Includes Grand Canyon’s “Standing in the Shadows” in Weekend MixTape

Have to leave the Mixtape on a fun note – jump in the time machine with me, I’ve set it for 1978 and we’re going to have a good time with Grand Canyon. “Standing In the Shadows” hearkens back to that golden time with a feel that would fit right in on your Firebird’s Pioneer stereo. It’s easier and easier for me to get nostalgic and while I couldn’t drive in ’78, if I could have, I would have cranked this one up. The organ solidifies it’s sound for me. Great visuals in the video, too!

Comeherefloyd Reviews Grand Canyon’s “Shangri-La La Land

Impeccable beauty is presented in ‘Shangri-La La Land’ by GRAND CANYON. As the winds drift across the plains of your heart, there was a sparkle of hope, that caressed your dreams. And when you awoke, there they were – singing for the sake of you.

Fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Casey Shea and vocalist Amy Wilcox, the 6 piece band is just too delicious to pass in any regard. And it’s even harder, when the strolling Roy Orbison-like charms drench your psyche, as a touch of David Grey-esque harmony hangs with juicy delight.

Jennah Bell is Featured in Paste Magazine’s Daily Dose Column, Premieres New Track, “Common Cold”

On her new song “Common Cold,” Los Angeles-based folk artist Jennah Bell takes the phrase “lovesick” to a whole new level. For the narrator, that feeling isn’t just a yearning, but an actual illness that’s rarely diagnosed—and not easily cured. “Uncommonly cold,” Bell sings. “Your memory froze to the cigarette smoke married to my coat.” Just like a nasty virus, she’s having a hard time shaking off this heartbreak flu.

The chilly track, which Bell dedicates to time spent in considerable cold (both emotional and literal), is from the singer/songwriter’s forthcoming debut studio LP Anchors & Elephants, out Feb. 22, and it’s premiering today (Feb. 5) exclusively at Paste. You can check it out below. READ MORE
