The Nerdist features The Wans’ new video “Never Win” as their Music Geek Track of the Day

The Wans Simon Kerr-Vocals/Guitar Mark Petaccia-Vocals/Drums Thomas Bragg-Vocals/Bass He Said, She Said Never Win the nerdist chris hardwick

Its a really trite idea that Mondays are the worst ever, but don’t let that detract from the incontrovertible fact that the three dudes in Nashville-based The Wans are having a way worse start to the work week than you in the their new music video for “Never Win”.

Sure, it’s all ebullient early morning sunshine and cartoon bluejays art first, but things take a nosedive almost immediately when that same cute lil bird shits all over the band’s frontman face, little kids with black belts attack, and a full body sun burn prevents graceful full-body movement. It is a disastrous melange of bruise inducing bad luck and misanthropic children, and it should make you feel better about your day unless part of you caught on fire or was unceremoniously amputated (is there such a thing as ceremonious amputation?). All the while we are treated to the Wans brand of flailing garage rock that sounds uncannily like early aughts White Stripes. WATCH HERE…

CMJ premieres The Wans’ new video for “Never Win,” the opening track off their new album He Said, She Said

The Wans Simon Kerr-Vocals/Guitar Mark Petaccia-Vocals/Drums Thomas Bragg-Vocals/Bass He Said, She Said CMJ never win video premiere

In the Wans’ new video for Never Win, the Nashville trio is down on their luck. What starts as a beautiful day soon devolves into a series of mishaps involving birds, bikes, young black-belts and some really unpleasant-looking sunburn. Here’s what the Wans frontman Simon Kerr told us about the video:

I initially came to [directors] Jason [Denton} & Steve [Voss] with a rough idea of all of us having the worst day ever, and we built the video around that idea. I was made to look as gross as possible, while Thomas [bass] wore a karate outfit the entire day and Mark [drums] wore a speedo the entire day. Jason and Steve wanted us to look as ridiculous as possible.

The video really shows our sense of humor. We take our music pretty seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. The majority of the time we’re laughing and making fun of each other in the van while we’re on tour.

Never Win is the lead track off the band’s recent album, He Said, She Said. We’ve got the premiere of the video, which you can check out below along with the Wans’ dates at CMJ Music Marathon. WATCH HERE…

Paste Magazine premieres Gringo Star’s “World of Spin,” the first track to emerge from the band’s upcoming 7-inch (out Oct. 17 on dizzybird records)

Gringo Star Peter Furgiuele and Nicholas Furgiuele baby robot media

Atlanta-based brothers Nick and Pete Furgiuele, better known as Gringo Star, are releasing two new songs. Their new 7-inch single, “Long Time Gone” b/w “World of Spin,” is out Oct. 17 on newcomer label dizzybird records.

As with 2013’s Floating Out to See, Gringo Star recorded the new songs in Pete’s home studio. This time, however, the brothers handled every single instrument and vocal themselves. Nick sings lead on the A-side, “Long Time Gone,” with Pete handling the opposite’s “World of Spin.”

Gringo Star’s new single and an LP from friends Heaters will be dizzybird records’ first releases. Brian Hoekstra, co-founder of dizzybird records, calls Gringo Star’s sound infectious and timeless. “These two sides could’ve come out at any point in the last 50 years,” Hoekstra says. LISTEN HERE…

The Wild Honey Pie invites you to crush on City Tribe’s new song “Bury Me”

San Fran band City Tribe released their debut full-length just last week, and if you’ve yet to hear it then you’re going to want to do that — especially after listening to their next single, “Bury Me”. A foursome smitten with all things West Coast (all born and raised there), City Tribe’s sound is saturated with golden, guitar-driven melodies and salty sweet harmonies. Dubbed “the Vampire Weekend for the West Coast,” the delicate entwining vocals are easily reminiscent of Fleet Foxes at times. Although the way the easygoing arrangement ultimately pans out is a formula unique to City Tribe, feet firmly planted in the sand. “Bury Me” is a late afternoon beach trip, as you’re lazing on a blanket and dozing off right around three minutes in only to be roused by the sounds of your favorite place in the world, feeling totally at ease. Listen to the premiere of City Tribe’s “Bury Me” above from their debut LP, Undertow, and commence your next band crush. LISTEN HERE…

Baeblemusic premieres Tesla Rossa’s new single “Vacation”

Tessla Rossa self titled Jason Denton Ryan Tullock Nathan Wahlman baby robot media vacation Baeblemusic Baeble music

Tesla Rossa might not be a household name yet, but the Nashville trio has us hooked with their gritty southern rock sound, which reminds us a little of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but with more power and passion behind every riff and lyric sung.

The band’s new single, “Vacation,” is adventurous, raw, and ready to simmer in speakers for those who gravitate toward rock music you can feel to the bone.

“Vacation” is the first single from our new album, but it was actually conceived a few years back inside a tiny sheet-metal rehearsal space in the ghetto of East Nashville,” Jason Denton says. “The song was born out of an awkward, angular guitar riff that me and our drummer Nathan were jamming on late at night. At the time, I was in a tiff with an ex girlfriendduring the song’s intro, our guitar player Ryan is mimicking a voicemail she left me. In the end, I think the song retains its gritty, energetic center but channels an era when rock was a bit more professional.” LISTEN HERE…
