Philadelphia indie/post-punk outfit, Church Girls, will be releasing their new EP, Cycles, tomorrow January 25th via Chatterbot Records. The EP was produced by Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, Superchunk, Okkervil River), adding to their impressive resume that includes working with critically acclaimed producers Erik Wofford (Black Angels, Explosions in the Sky) and Brian McTear (Dr. Dog, Marissa Nadler, The War on Drugs).
“I think all of the songs on this album were written over the course of two year period, from June 2016 – March 2018. I think I definitely grew as a songwriter over the course of creating this album, and since it’s been done, I’ve written some of my best work. The recording of this album was such an enjoyable experience. It took the better part of a year to finish because of my touring schedule and the need to keep funds flowing in order to finance the album. Working with Al Torrence and the rest of the guys was a ton of fun. It honestly didn’t feel like work.” – Wesley

A couple years back, we were making slow progress writing our first album. We thought getting out of LA might help us focus, so we found an Airbnb about 5 hours north in North Fork and headed out of town.
On our first night, we went out for drinks at the one place in town that had its lights on. By the end of the night, we had drunkenly talked the bartender and owner into letting us play a gig at the bar on our final night in town. It was to be a three hour set of covers and originals. At the time, we had about 8 songs to our name, and we had never played a gig as a band. We had a few days to get about 25 more songs under our belt. Did I mention it would be our first gig as a band?
