PureVolume debuts Bedouine’s new video for “The City”

Bedouine The City Los Angeles baby robot media

Hailing from Los Angeles, singer/songwriter Bedouine is a talent who is able to channel her spiritual and creative energy into her music. Her songs take you on a sonic and lyrical voyage that make the mesmerizing sound mundane. This is a theme you can see in her videos as well, like the one we’re premiering today in “The City.” The song comes from her self-titled EP that saw her work with Jake Blanton (Father John Misty, The Killers, Jenny O) and the video reflects the emotion and cinematic nature of her sonic and visual work.

“Writing this song with Jake Blanton felt easy and serendipitous,” she says of the song. “We never intended to write together really. The song was an unplanned byproduct of a hang that happened to be in a studio. That’s where Jake was living at the time. It was casual and fun, and by no means a ‘writing session.’

“As for the video—being on camera is a formidable task for me, but I found a cozy place in the shadow of lead actress Jessica Nicole Collins. I went to school with the filmmakers Tom Salvaggio and Garrett DeLuca of 12/11 Creative, as well as Jessica. Making music videos together was an unpredictable yet unsurprisingly copacetic collaboration. Its counterpart, our video for “Bright Lights” is technically a prequel to “The City.” Jess and I didn’t know too much about the sequence, which was ok. We had the task of drawing between the lines, and I hope the people who watch enjoy doing so as much as I did.”

Bedouine’s self-titled EP is out now. WATCH HERE…

SEX BBQ’s new debut LP, Sex Noir City, reviewed alongside Tedo Stone, BITERS, BLACK LINEN, FUTUREBIRDS & Dana Swimmer in Examiner.com’s Pick Six Column

Georgia has a ton of local musicians out there and folks need to stand up and take notice. From all walks of the music universe they toil in relative obscurity because many residents would prefer to shell out big bucks for national acts in hopes they get the generic shout out to their community then a few meager shekels to support the singers and songwriters that live among them. Almost any night of the week you can find a local band jamming original tunes at one of the many local venues just waiting for listeners to come partake in some tasty tunes and ice cold beverages. With that all being said, here is a bonus Chris’ Pick Six that focuses on local music. Check out these records and go see them live whenever the chance arises.

SEX BBQ – Sex Noir City

Sometimes you have to invest a boat load of time to get into new music and other times a record is fun right from the beginning, Sex Noir City from the Atlanta band SEX BBQ is one of the latter. A conglomeration of talented Atlanta musicians, SEX BBQ has delivered a batch of tunes that takes listeners on a wild romp through a crazy world of musical goodness. Layers of sounds swirl around the boisterous vocals of Kate Jan creating a record that is equal parts surf guitar, punk, garage rock, lounge and power pop. The songs have a whimsical feel with a hidden dark side as Jan sings about sex, dysfunctional relationships, weed and a wealth of everyday life shit. Sex Noir City is a record that just keeps getting better with each listen as new layers reveal themselves. Blistering guitars, booming percussion, creepy toy piano and a mix of various sounds & effects are meticulously brought together melding into one cohesive sound while avoiding falling into chaos and unlistenable noise. As the haunting beginning of the opening track explodes into a surf guitar mix it is almost impossible not delve further into the record. From start to finish there are no weak spots but don’t take my word go give it a listen. READ MORE…

Relix Magazine premieres a wild live video of People’s Blues of Richmond at this year’s Camp Barefoot, and previews their Jan. 15 show headlining The Bowery Ballroom in NYC

peoples blues of richmond outta my mind the black keys j roddy walston and the business bluesy retro mark neill turn blue

People’s Blues of Richmond are counting down their final shows of 2015 and then looking ahead to 2016. The group will next appear on December 17 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC and will ring in 2016 in Tampa, FL at Ella’s Americana. Their January itinerary includes their first-ever headlining a show at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom followed by a January 16 appearance in Washington, DC at The Hamilton. Today we’re premiering a live video from the animated trio, which finds them at Camp Barefoot 9 on 8/21/2015.

The group’s lead singer/vocalist Tim Beavers reflects on the song “Nihilist Blues,” telling Relix, “I’ve always found peace in the thought that there is no magic and that there are no big scary religious truths. That this world is beautiful just from the natural selection and survival of all the amazing life forms that inhabit it. That we all have our mothers and fathers and friends and ancestors to thank instead of a higher power. That this world is a result of the fortitude and effort of those that inhabit it. I think that in many ways the philosophy of nihilism is empowering to all of the life forms that are here and all of the life forms that strove before current generations. When I say “nothing is sacred,” I don’t mean that there isn’t anything sacred; I mean that the absence of a higher power makes everything more sacred: Nothingness is sacred; we are strong enough to do this alone. Musically, it’s one of my favorite songs because it combines driving blues verses with one of the heaviest chorus riffs to ever come out of this band. The bravery of the verses’ lonesome philosophy juxtaposed with the humble chorus lines (“I ain’t no poet, but you ain’t no muse”) plus a spoken word breakdown that builds into a feverish climax, all make for a barn burner of a rock n’ roll song.”

As for Camp Barefoot, bassist Matt Volkes adds, “Camp Barefoot has been a great experience—we’ve been playing the festival for the past four or five years, and every year it seems like the family is getting bigger. The festival is largely a culmination of the West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland music scenes, but they grab a little from all over the country. The music has always been really diverse and top quality. I mean, just a few of the bands that have played—Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Lettuce, Motet, Papadosio, Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, Tauk… really way too many to name. There’s no cellphone service there, which is amazing. It allows you to step away from technology, phones, TV, etc., and lets you focus on what you’re there to do—have a good time. As a band, it’s been amazing—we have had latenight sets the past few years and let’s just say we get rowdy. You’ll have to come check it out for yourself. There is a team and a family behind this festival, and they have made it so bands and fans can enjoy themselves. A lot of times, since we are always on the road, we miss our friends’ bands and don’t get a chance to support them as much as we’d like, but we always take the weekend off, stay three or four days, and get to rock out to all of our friends’ bands, sit in and hang for the whole weekend. It’s a lot of fun.” READ MORE…
