Culture Collide debuts Sara Rachele’s new single “Sweet Man of Mine”

Sara Rachele (pronounced ra-kelly) will transport you back to a purer time in pop rock; she has a voice you might’ve stumbled upon with a radio dial in the ‘90s: sweet but edgy, you can picture it softly crackling through your speakers while you’re driving down a New England highway in winter. Stripped to drums, vocals and guitar, Rachele’s sound formed through a series of encounters with various music scenes: first she worked at the trendy Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta and began playing as a side musician in a number of bands before becoming a back-up vocalist for The Love Willows. Next she relocated to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music for a time, landing eventually in New York City where she wrote most of her current material. A follow up to her debut album Diamond Street, her new single “Sweet Man of Mine” will be officially released this Friday (October 23). Here’s what Rachele says about recording track:

This song is a little call to love, when you’re dying for another’s attention. We recorded it at the same Atlanta studio in Little Five Points where I did my debut LP, Diamond Street. This time there was less pressure — it was just, “let’s make this song how we want it.” So we messed around and laughed and did some clap tracks.  LISTEN HERE…

Sydney Eloise & The Palms’ latest, “Ode to an Old Friend,” debuts at Culture Collide

Sydney Eloise and the Palms Atlanta faces indie rock BABY robot media culture collide ode to an old friend

Sydney Eloise has been playing music since age 16, but she hasn’t felt this sure of her music until now. “This record truly represents who I am, where I am, and how much work I put in leading up to it,” she says of her debut LP, Faces, out tomorrow.

Recorded at The Cottage studios, a carriage house nestled in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, Sydney Eloise collaborated with good friends and co-producers Damon Moon and Chandler Galloway, and invited local musicians Paul Stevens (Grand Vapids), Jenna Shea Mobley (Book Club) and Matt Jarrard (Royal Thunder, Spirits and the Melchizedek Children) to add instrumentation. Culture Collide interviews Grand Vapids and premieres the title track off the band’s new album Guarantees

Grand Vapids Austin Harris McKendrick Bearden Chris Goggans Paul Stevens Baby robot media atlanta athens ga georgia Guarantees

Sometimes you hear a lineup and just know that it’s right. This is true of McKendrick Bearden, Austin Harris, Chris Goggans, and Paul Stevens, who make up the Georgia-based indie rock band Grand Vapids.

Harris and Bearden’s vocals call to mind that of Sun Kil Moon, cushioned by loud, purring drums, melancholy violin, and dense soundscapes that fold in on each other like waves and explode unhurriedly into the ether.

“We didn’t wanted to rush anything on this record,” says Harris. “We took our time, really worked on the songs as a band, and played them a lot before going into the studio. When we started recording, it felt natural and we had a lot of room to expand the arrangements.”

And it shows. Their album, recorded in Athens, Georgia and mastered by Drew Vandenberg, (whose credits include of Montreal, Deerhunter, and Kishi Bashi), showcases a calculated but genuine sound, filling a void in the current indie rock landscape. Stream the single “Guarantees” from the album of the same name, out Jan. 20.
