rsz_1rsz_dsc03050

San Francisco producer and electronic artist Jacob Montague—maybe better known in the music world as Tsutro—has teamed with up Substream to share a brand new single, titled “Say Something.” Featuring Roxi Pianko, who uses her beautiful voice to share vocal duties, the new track from Tsutro melds elements of folk music and EDM to create a lush, dreamy, and shimmering single that we wouldn’t mind an extended cut of. Coming in a bit shy of three minutes in length, “Say Something” will make you smile at its sweet delivery and dance when the building beat allows. Listen below and enjoy. READ MORE...

Substream shares album stream of North by North’s “Last Days of Magic”

Just in time for Halloween, Chicago duo North By North are here with a massive, 17-track double LP filled with lots of guitar, in-your-face vocals, plenty of groove, fervor for days, and spooky, Stephen King-inspired elements that feel just right for the season. Last Days Of Magic not only has some of the greatest album art of the year, but front to back it’s simply one of the best albums of the year as well. Putting out a 17-song album that isn’t packed with skits or interludes is both ballsy and ambitious; you run the risk of boring the listener with lackluster filler, but North By North keep it consistently exciting with an interesting concept and intriguing songwriting that always feels fresh and theatric. Quoting myself from a previous mention of the band, North By North’s music “begs to be blasted at high volumes and sounds better and better the higher you crank the knob.” READ MORE…

Tesla Rossa is the lead story today at Substream Music Press, where you can stream their new self-titled debut in its entirety.

For the past five years, Tesla Rossa has been silently running wild at house parties and basement shows around the country.  Now, the band is finally releasing its self-titled debut album.  A lot can happen over five years, and Tesla Rossa stands as evidence of that. The album showcases a dynamic collection of songs varying greatly in musical influence.  One moment roars as wildly as any garage rock jam, the next comes gently crooning, dancing over strings, or dabbling with sitar.

“We always kind of joke that we’re the modern rock version of a throwback band, or like a throwback band from the future, because we do have a lot of those sounds that rock and roll was built on but we always try to wrap it around some kind of new thing,” says vocalist/guitarist Jason Denton.

The trio, finished off by Ryan Tullock and Nathan Wahlman, gathers an eclectic mix of influences channeled into one blend of sounds that defines Tesla Rossa.  Even between members the influences differ.  “I’m much more of a rock guy, Nathan loves jazz, Ryan’s much more of…he loves pop and more of the hip hop world,” Denton explains.

It’s not only the wide collection of influences that leads to the diverse style, the time spent together as a band plays directly into where Tesla Rossa is now.  Five years’ time provided the Nashville group with a collection of songs spanning a variety of directions influenced by their own lives and musical interests during that time period. Substream Magazine premieres new Tesla Rossa song “Kaleidescopic Soul”

Tessla Rossa self titled Jason Denton Ryan Tullock Nathan Wahlman baby robot media

More than anything else, Tesla Rossa is an organism that has evolved rapidly and constantly through touring, writing, and common living over the past five years. Having played festivals such as Starry Nights, Nashville’s Road to Bonnaroo and CMJ Festival in NYC, they are poised to bring their tightly-composed rock and pop rarities to a larger audience.

Members Jason Denton, Ryan Tullock and Nathan Wahlman met through a polygon of romantic mishaps that would have tested even the best of friendships. Oddly enough, the group gravitated toward one another and before long were writing, recording, and playing wild shows at houses and venues alike.  Young and full of fire, they threw themselves into the college party and house show circuit, spreading the good times and igniting many a late-night dance party.  As they grew in life experience and musical maturity, however, it was time to see their work in serious light.  They enlisted the help of engineer Vance Powell (Jack White, The Dead Weather) to narrow down their numerous demos into a cohesive record and bring it to life. They cut the chosen tracks live in Powell’s studio and brought on Kyle Dreaden, now producer of the band, to mix. After years of heavy touring and writing, Tesla Rossa is finally celebrating their first full-length release. LISTEN HERE…
